Therapy for Dissociative Identity Disorders

Dissociation and Dissociative Identity Disorders (DID) are more common than most people would believe. These issues and conditions, and the people who live with them, are rarely given adequate care or understanding. Instead, DIDs are often misunderstood, minimized, or even completely dismissed. This can add to the isolating and terrifying experiences one might frequently go through, leaving an individual feeling broken and unwanted.

Dissociation takes many forms, from amnesia to extreme fogginess. It’s as if someone else is taking the wheel of your life and you’re a helpless passenger. In its most severe or dysfunctional forms, dissociation makes you feel like your life is out of control in a blurred and disorienting world.

Complex trauma or traumatic histories are at the heart of dissociative disorders. So, it’s critical that healing must be done through healthy relationships. However, due to the limited resources available to individuals with DID, therapy options can be scarce. So, not only can it be difficult for someone to find another person who believes them– it can be nearly impossible to find a therapist who welcomes individuals with dissociation through their door.

These conditions are often frightening and impossible to manage on your own. For dissociative disorders, complex trauma, and dissociative identity disorder, it’s important to have a therapist you can trust and who believes in your capacity to heal. It requires patience, time, trust, and commitment. You can grow and heal through authentic relationships - where you are met with empathetic listening, genuine understanding, and thoughtful care.

As your therapist, I will focus on your needs. First, we will build safety and trust in our relationship. That will enable an open space for you to take risks, and together we can face wounds too painful for you to confront alone. You need someone to bear witness to your pain and struggles and walk alongside you on this journey.

I could be that person for you.
