Therapy for Depression

Depression is a serious mental illness that can feel like you're dragging yourself through life. Each day can be a struggle to wake up and step out into the world.

Most of us have felt sadness before, but depression is so much more than that. It can fill your mind with a never-ending stream of negative thoughts. Keep you in a state of constant fatigue. Kill all desire to be around friends and family, or do the activities you once enjoyed.

Depressive cycles can last weeks, months, or even years. When you are depressed, hopelessness and despair can overtake you. Motivation to do anything can completely disappear, and everything can feel overwhelming. Small tasks, like brushing your teeth or everyday responsibilities like going to the grocery store, become too much to bear. And, there can be a strong urge to withdraw fully from people (especially if you're pretending to be okay).

Often, depression is misunderstood. It is not a temporary mood swing, a sign of personal weakness, or something you can just wish away overnight. It is a severe mental illness that requires proper help, support, and care - just like any other injury. Recovering from depression can be very difficult because it tries to keep you tired, stuck, and constantly dwelling. That’s why it’s so important to seek a therapist with expertise and empathy. Therapy can help you break out of the depressive spiral and thought patterns, so colors, sensations, excitements, and the feel of life can return back into your world. 

Healing is a multi-step journey. One that requires a mental health professional who can act like a beacon of hope to gently guide you back from the isolation and away from the swirling thoughts.
