The Therapeutic Process

The process of psychotherapy is like any healing journey—it is a non-linear path, building toward a horizon of hope, fulfilment, and meaning.  Therapy is a process of unfolding and holding space for all aspects of who you are, what has made you who you are, and who you are becoming.  Together in therapy, we will attend to the emotions, existential themes, social scripts and narratives that show up in session and in your world.  In attending to our present Way-of-Being, we can uncover new Ways-of-Being in the world and with others, that can break disruptive patterns.

As the therapist, I will create a safe, secure, and nurturing space in which you can explore your feelings, and what truly matters to you in life.  Therapy is a place of understanding and non-judgement, first and foremost.  Through understanding and reflection, we can gain deeper insight into who we are, and who we would like to change or Be.  The process for change and healing takes time, patience, and determination.  There are times in therapy, where it feels like we are spinning and repeating the past.  And often, there are times where we feel uncomfortable, dissatisfied, or in pain.  One does not heal in the absence of pain, but through it—and through the slow and careful process of attending to the wounding and its repetitions.  If we can sit with the discomfort, and sit with the painful and hard feelings—we can and will find healing on the other side.

Ultimately, the therapeutic process is set, defined, and determined by you.  I, as the therapist, will provide guidance through the darkness.  I am here to sit with you while we work in the dark, and shine a light on all the different aspects that make up you and your world.  If you stray from the path, or get lost in the dark—I will be there to help you find your way back.  Healing occurs in togetherness, not aloneness.  I will bring as much of myself as you bring in session.  The therapeutic process is a collaborative endeavor, with the sole aim of holding space for you and your woundings for growth and healing.
